I turn off all shadows and sun effects - I find them distracting. Road vehicles at 25%, ships/ferries at 100% (there aren't that many of them anyway), and leisure boats 40%. Airport vehicle density is at minimum - too many vehicles get in the way of taxiing. I continuously bump those settings down by 5% each time I see an instance, but it hasn't happened for a few months now.
